On Wednesday, 21st August, we had the pleasure of being visited by one of our exceptional supply teachers, who last year published a book recounting their experiences in supply teaching. With the team's combined experience of over 50 years working with schools, we seldom get a glimpse into the daily happenings within these institutions. Therefore, you can imagine our excitement at the opportunity to hear the firsthand accounts from our supply teacher's time in various schools.
About Grant
Grant was born in the East End of London and raised on the Essex/East London Border. He was the oldest of Six children, who came from various parentage, including the youngest, who was a foster child with Downs Syndrome. Extreme adversity in his childhood taught him resilience and tenacity, and to appreciate the values of hope, love and kindness.
After Leaving School, he worked and an administrative clerk for a prominent solicitor firm in London, before embarking on a voluntary service assignment in the USA. That experience consolidated his love for America and it's warm-hearted people. Two years later, he returned to the UK, and worked as a labourer, taper and jointer, then roofer, before finally joining the Metropolitan Police Service.
Eleven years after joining the Met, he and his young family emigrated to Australia. It was an experience he will always be grateful for. The Australian people, in his opinion, were some of the most down to earth people he had ever met. Five Years later, the entire family returned to Old Blighty, where he enrolled at university, and ultimately gained a 2:1 degree in Primary.
Ten Years residing on England's south coast and very close the beaches, while working as a teacher, and then a supply teacher, gave his family a fun and healthy lifestyle. Now, mainly for economic reasons, they love elsewhere in the UK. it remains to be see their next adventure takes them.
